Périgord is a region in southwest France, a part of the Dordogne department (24) and Perigord Noir the south-eastern part of it. Rolling hills criss-crossed by meandering watercourses, small farming, walnut fields, oak and mixed forests dominate the landscape. Despite low population density, the eye meets after almost every road bend on picturesque hamlets, villages, manor houses, castles and chateaux. The Périgourdins are proud, that they inhabit and cultivate to this day, their ancestrors houses and properties from the 12th-17th centuries. Far away from the country's coasts, the region attracts green tourism. Country vacationers and hikers meet with prehistoric interrested folks and people who love local coziness and serenity. The recreation value is high, the air pure, the products on the numerous weekly markets are local and fresh. Short trips to the wineries around Bergerac and St-Emilion tastefully complete this holiday experience. (more on wikipedia)
